本日11月23日、CIRCUS Tokyoにて来日公演開催

 

 

ロンドンのプロデューサー／シンガーPalmistryが、本日11月23日にCIRCUS Tokyoで開催される「Sexualnoise」に出演。共演には〈Bedouin Records〉からアルバムをリリースしたばかりのCORINや、ワルシャワの〈IA〉から作品をリリースするAstmaや、Hiro”Bingo”Watanabe、Le Makeup、Dosing、Sakura Tsuruta、S亜TOH、Elena Midoriなど。来日直前の慌ただしい中、ショートインタビューを行った。

 

Palmistryは、前作『PAGAN』に続くニューアルバム『Afterlife』を今年5月に〈Mixpak〉からリリース。SOPHIEも「Water」のプロデュースで参加している。さらにPalmistryと言えば、今年7年ぶりのアルバム『Triad / 黑 社 會』で突然復活したカルトスポークンラッパーTriad Godの楽曲を手がけるプロデューサーであり、他にも親交が深いYung Leanの別名義jonatan leandoer127やBladeeの楽曲も手がけている。また、Cashmere Catが、DiploのMajor Lazer、Tory Lanezとコラボした2018年メインストリームのヒット曲『Miss You』のサンプル元の曲は、前作『PAGAN』に収録されている「Lifted」でもある。

 

 

– あなたの歴史を教えてください。

 

Palmistry – 僕はアイルランドとイギリスで育った。音楽に興味を持ったのは結構遅くて、ギターを習い始めたのが17歳くらいのときかな。そのあと音楽制作を学んで、19歳くらいの時に、エレクトロポップとフォークぽい感じの自分の最初の曲を何曲かをレコーディングしたんだよ。

 

– 『Afterlife』のコンセプトがあれば教えてください。

 

Palmistry – 『Afterlife』はそんなにディープな作品だとは思っていない。ただレコードの1曲で、ラテン語で夢を意味する『Somniums（ソムニウム）』って長いこと呼ばれてたアルバムがあるんだけど、僕がやったこととかけ離れてるわけじゃないことをやっている誰かが、その名前でレコードを出したから、彼に台無しにされたって感じだ（笑）。

 

– SOPHIEとのコラボレーションはどうでしたか？

 

Palmistry – SOPHIEは、僕が知っている中でも最も優れていて、最も才能ある人だよ！彼女と仕事をするのはいつも最高、ほんと特別だよ！

 

 

– 『Afterlife』の制作のプロセスはどのようのものだったんでしょうか。

 

Palmistry – 『Afterlife』のプロダクションでは、ほとんどの曲をホームスタジオで作った。ホテルの場合もあったんだけどね。それから長い時間かけて音を良くしていったんだ。でもちょっと変なんだけど、問題はほとんどないのにずいぶん長くかかって、本来2017年に世に出るべきだったけど、骨の折れる契約上の問題があったんだ。あとこれは、有名人が何人か関わったすごくクールなレコードだね。Mechatok、SOPHIE、Cashmere Cat、Klu、Toian、BennyBlanco、みんなスターさ！このレコードは年を重ねるにつれて味が出る気がするよ 🙂

 

– Yung Leanや〈YEAR0001〉について。あなたとの関係は特別に見えます。

 

Palmistry – 僕とJonteとEmilioは、音楽をやるずっと前からの知り合いなんだよ。彼らとは超スペシャルなファミリー感があって、実際のところ僕は非公式の先輩メンバーでみんなの年長者って感じなんだ！でも、みんな仲が良くて絆の強いグループだよ。

 

– 今後、考えてることや理想の未来などはありますか？

 

Palmistry – 今は猫と一緒にLAにいるんだけど、猫用の要塞を手に入れてあいつらにふさわしいライトアップしてやりたいんだ！数年以内に実現したい主な優先事項の1つだね。

– Can you tell me about your personal history?

 

Palmistry – I was raised in Ireland / England , I got into music quiet late trying to learn guitar around 17 later learning music production to record my first songs around 19 that were kinda electro pop folk vibes.

 

– What is the concept behind your album “Afterlife” ?

 

Palmistry – I think afterlife isnt that deep just one of songs on the record the album was called Somniums for the longest time which is latin for dreams but someone not a million miles away from what I did brought out a record with that name and he kinda ruined it for me haha.

 

– How did you like work with SOPHIE?

 

Palmistry – Sophie’s the best , most talented person I know! Always love working with her , special!

 

– Please tell me the process of production of “Afterlife”?

 

Palmistry – Afterlife production write nearly all the songs in a bedroom , hotel could be for others , then I spent ages tryna make them sound better it’s weird tho took so long even tho not much happening it should have come out in 2017 but I had some painful contractual stuff , this record was cool cuz I worked with some big names on it , mechatok , Sophie , cashmere cat , klu , toian , benny blanco all stars ! Feel like this record will age well 🙂

 

– What kind of relationship do you have with Yung Lean & YEAR0001? it looks like special.

 

Palmistry – Me and jonte and Emilio know each other way before music. It’s some y2k shit v special family vibes with all those guys actually I’m like a unofficial member senpai elder of the clan! But we all friends big groupers.

 

– What are your hopes and thoughts for the future?

 

Palmistry – I’m in La now with my cats , I wanna get them the cat fortress glow up they deserve! That’s one of my main priorities coming years.
