──簡単な自己紹介をお願いいたします。

The Deep：こんにちは。韓国のインディペンデントアーティストのThe Deepです。お会いできて嬉しいです。

──アーティストネームの由来について教えていただけますか？（ANION RADIOでは検索するのが大変だとファンから連絡が来たといっていましたね…笑）

The Deep：私の名前に 「Deep 」という言葉を入れたかったのは、私が歌うと声が深く響くから。よりクールに聞こえるように、頭に「The」をつけました。ただでさえ検索するのは難しかったのに、The Deepというキャラクターが登場するドラマ『The Boys』のせいでさらに難しくなりました。しかも、検索するとトップは 「Rolling in the Deep」（Adele）がヒット。「Rolling in the Deep」よりも有名になれるように頑張ります。

──シンガーになったきっかけについて教えて下さい。

The Deep：話と長くなりますが、若い頃はデザインや絵を描いていました。でも、それらに飽き始めた20歳頃、私は歌手になるという子供の頃からの夢を追いかけることにしました。それで大邱からソウルに引っ越し、ひとりで音楽活動を始めました。やがて、これが私の道だと理解しました。

──憧れのアーティストや、ロールモデルはいますか？

The Deep：この質問を受けるたびに、正直なところ、すぐに思い浮かぶアーティストはいなくて。もちろん、何人かはいるのだが、毎年変わります。今年はCharli XCX。あまり他人に影響されないようにしているつもりです。

──楽曲制作の際に大切にしていること、こだわっていることはありますか？

The Deep：ビートのサウンド。エレクトロニック・ミュージックを作れば作るほど、ビートはヴォーカル以上に重要だと実感します。もちろん、キャッチーなボーカルのメロディラインも。曲を作るときは、サウンドを通して情景を思い浮かべることができればいい作品だと思います。

──今一番聴いてほしい自分の楽曲はありますか？　また理由も教えて下さい。

The Deep：「BAPPI」好きな人には好きな理由があります。私が聴いても、聴きやすくて楽しい曲。次は「20’s」。歌詞がすごく切ない。20代の気持ちを歌った曲なんだけど、落ち込んでいるときに聴くと、余計に切なくなります。

──以前グラフィックデザインの学校に通っていて、自身のスタイリングをしたり、グッズも自分でデザインしていらっしゃいますが、デザインやアートなどが音楽に反映されることはありますか？

The Deep：今良い音楽を作れるのは、昔デザインを勉強していたからだと思います。言葉にするのは難しいけれど、それは重要な役割を果たしています。どちらもアートだから。

──2016年からSoundCloudで活動していらっしゃいますが、初期の活動ではR&Bジャンルの楽曲が多かったと思います。そこから2022年に発表した「Muah!」からUK GarageやHouseなどのErectronicなジャンルの楽曲が中心になってきました。これにはなにか理由があるのでしょうか？

The Deep：長い間R&Bが好きで作ってきたけど、飽きてしまって。世間ではあまり注目されず、私もR&Bに興味を失い始めてしまった。そんなときにUKガラージというジャンルを知って、自分がやっていたR&Bのボーカルとエレクトロニック・ビートを組み合わせたジャンルがあることに気づいたんです。すごく楽しかった。今でもエレクトロニック・ミュージックについて学んでいるつもりです。今の時代の私にぴったりの音楽だと思います。それにSevdalizaとか昔から好きだったから、以前はエレクトロニック・ミュージックに興味がなかったわけではなくて、ただ作っていなかっただけで。このジャンルはずっと好きだったんです。

──今後チャレンジしたい音楽ジャンル等はありますか？

The Deep：ポップミュージック。ハードベースミュージック。

──JJANGYOUやHUNJIYA、Mist、GOLDBUUDA、今回一緒に来日するh4rdy等と共同制作をしていますが、どのような経緯でコラボレーションをしていますか？

The Deep：HunjiyaはスタイリストのSohyunが紹介してくれた同い年の友達。他のアーティストとはインスタのDMで知り合いました。

──コラボレーションしたいアーティストはいますか？（韓国、日本、世界問わず）

The Deep：Oscar Scheller… Charli XCX, Higgo, Sammy Virji

──Twitterやdiscordを運用している韓国のアーティストがあまりいない中、あなたは英語で投稿をして国外のファンとコミュニケーションをしています。国外のファンと触れ合うことで気付いたことはなにかありますか？（ポジティブなことでもネガティブなことでも）

The Deep：実はまだ英語の勉強中なんです。日本以外、海外に行ったことがないんです。海外のファンとのコミュニケーションは楽しいです。彼らは純粋に音楽が好きなようだし。これからも会う機会が増えるといいなと思ってます。ネガティブな経験はないです。

──今後の活動予定を教えて下さい。

The Deep：EP、アルバム、体型を整え、健康を維持します。

──日本のリスナーへなにかメッセージをいただけますか？

The Deep：驚かれるかもしれないが、私が今までステージでやった中で一番長いパフォーマンスは日本です。韓国で30分以上パフォーマンスしたことはないです。このような素晴らしい機会を与えてくれた素晴らしいETAの皆さん本当にありがとうございました。カワイイ日本のファンの皆さん、本当にありがとうございます >3<

──First, introduce yourself for AVYSS.

The Deep：Hello, I’m The Deep, an independent artist from Korea. Nice to meet you!

──Can you tell me about the origin of your artist name?（You said you were contacted by a fan who said it was hard to find you on ANION RADIO… lol.）

The Deep：I wanted to include the word “Deep” in my name because I think my voice sounds deep when I sing. To make it sound cooler, I added “The” at the beginning. Yes, that’s right. It was already hard to find me when searching for my name, but now it’s even harder because of the popular show “The Boys” with the character “The Deep.” And when you search “The Deep,” the top result is “Rolling in the Deep,” a huge hit. I’ll do my best to become more famous than “Rolling in the Deep”,,,,,!

──Can you tell me about how you became a singer?

The Deep：Long story short, when I was younger, I used to do design and drawing. But as I started to get tired of those, around the age of 20, I decided to pursue my childhood dream of becoming a singer. So, I just moved from Daegu to Seoul and started making music on my own. Eventually, I realized this is the path for me

──Are there any artists or role models you admire?

The Deep：Whenever I get this question, I honestly don’t have any artists that immediately come to mind. Of course, there are some, but it seems to change every year. This year, it’s Charli XCX. I think I try not to be too influenced by others

──Is there anything that is important or particular to you when making music?

The Deep：the sound of the beat. The more I create electronic music, the more I realize that the beat is even more important than the vocals. And of course, a catchy vocal melody line. When making a song, I believe it’s a good piece of music if it can make you visualize a scene through the sound.

──Which of your own songs would you most like people to listen to?　Please also tell me why.

The Deep：BAPPI There’s a reason people like it. Even when I listen to it, the song is easy to listen to and fun. Secondly, the lyrics of “20’s” are really sad. It’s a song that expresses the feelings of being in your 20s, and when I listen to it when I’m feeling down, it makes me even more sad

──You used to go to school for graphic design and do your own styling and design your own merchandise. Does your design and art inform your music?

The Deep：I believe the reason I can create good music now is because I studied design in the past. It plays an important role in a way that’s hard to put into words. I think it’s because they’re both forms of art.

──You have been active on SoundCloud since 2016. In your early work, you mainly focused on R&B tracks, whereas since ‘Muah!’ in 2022, you have been focusing on more Erectronic genres such as UK Garage and House. Is there a reason for this?

The Deep：I’ve loved and made R&B music for a long time, but I got tired of it. The reason is that it didn’t get much attention from the public, and I started to lose interest in R&B myself. Then I discovered the genre of UK garage and realized that there’s a genre that combines the R&B vocals I was doing with electronic beats. It was so much fun. I still think I’m learning about electronic music even now. I believe it’s the perfect music for me in this era. And actually, I’ve liked Sevdaliza for a long time, so it’s not that I wasn’t into electronic music before; I just wasn’t making it. I’ve always enjoyed this genre

──Which music genre would you like to try in the future?

The Deep：pop music, hard bass music

──You have collaborated with JJANGYOU, HUNJIYA, Mist, GOLDBUUUDA and h4rdy. How did the collaboration come about?

The Deep：Hunjiya is a friend who’s the same age as me, introduced by my stylist friend Sohyun. I got to know the other artists through Instagram DMs

──Who are the artists you would like to collaborate with in the future?(Whether Korean, Japanese or international)

The Deep：oscar scheller… Charli XCX, Higgo,sammy Virji

──Not many Korean artists operate X(Twitter) or Discord. You communicate with your fans outside the country by posting in English. What have you noticed from being in contact with fans outside your country? Ok, both positive and negative things.

The Deep：Actually, I’m still studying English. I’ve never been abroad except for Japan. It’s fun to communicate with international fans. They seem to genuinely love music. I hope there will be more opportunities to meet them in the future. I don’t have any negative experiences

──What are your plans for future activities?

The Deep：EP album, Getting in shape and staying healthy.

──Do you have any message for listeners in Japan?

The Deep：You might be surprised, but the longest performance I’ve ever done on stage was in Japan. I’ve never performed for more than 30 minutes in Korea.
